Dallas Arts Read of the Week: 4/12/14

‘Galatea’ mime show a thoughtful, dreamy must-see – April 12, 2014

This review is by Nancy Churnin of the arts section of The Dallas Morning News. I wanted to highlight this specific review and show for several reasons. First of all, the director, cast and creative team for this production were all very worried about publicity for this show. Co-creators and performers Katy Tye and Jeff Colangelo knew that they wanted to produce the show again after its workshop in the Greer Garson Theatre at SMU last spring, but they were not convinced that the show would have any success in a warehouse in Trinity Groves. But after creating a website to solicit donations and by using Twitter and Facebook to publicize the show, Colangelo was able to sell out the first weekend of performances at the Green Warehouse. This speaks both to the initiative of the team of the show and also to the strength of social media when used in the right ways to market shows and events.

GALATEA continues through April 27 at the Green Warehouse, 425 Bedford St., Dallas. $15. At the door or https://www.eventbrite.com/e/galatea-tickets-8913393199. Running time: 1 hour.
